The Shillinglaw roots are set in this neighborhood. Thomas’ dad, Kenneth Shillinglaw, grew up on Raeford Ave and his mom, Jimmie Carol Yarborough, grew up on Cotton Grove Rd (across from the 50/50 store; yeah this family has history in the town). We also have military history because Kenneth’s dad, Paul, served in WWII and Kenneth served in Vietnam war. Thomas enlisted in the Air Force while still in high school and served 5 years. He is fourth generation in Lexington, so we have some very well established roots in this town and are proud to call it our home and business territory. When Thomas was honorably discharged from the Air Force he came back home and attended DCCC to receive his AAS in Computer Engineering. He also met his lovely wife, Pam. She received her AAS in Computer Programming. After receiving his degree he worked at Mac Panel, R.J. Reynolds Research and Development, Walker and Associates, and Lexington Furniture. After working all day at Lexington Furniture in the IT department, Thomas would pick up the kids (Pam was working on her BAS in Computer Information Systems at High Point University at night after working a full schedule) and start the evening work of visiting people’s homes to help them with their computer issues. Therefore, many evenings were spent at people’s homes helping them get their computer running correctly from email issues, viruses, and people just getting their new computer and not knowing what to do with it. It turned into a full time business with the downsizing of Lexington Furniture and word of mouth. After five years of doing business out of the house and Pam getting laid off 3 times in one year, Thomas took Pam on as a partner in the business. They discovered that working out of the house was not the ideal situation because they couldn’t get away from the business and have a personal life so they found their store location and have been there for 12 years now. Thomas and Pam are the oldest, original owner, computer repair business in Lexington, NC. They have grown the business by word of mouth, referrals, and having family roots planted here. This community has seen the Shillinglaw family grow, as Thomas has with his own family and business. TC Concepts has set roots, is growing and will continue to grow and serve the computer needs of the community and surrounding areas.
